Roblox Child Sex Abuse Lawsuit: Justice for Families Betrayed by Big Tech

If Your Child Was Harmed on Roblox, You Are Not Alone. We’re Fighting for Accountability, And You Deserve to Be Heard.

A group of children in a living room smiling and using various digital devices including tablets, laptops, and gaming consoles to play online games, illustrating the vulnerable environment central to Roblox lawsuits regarding child safety and abuse.

Children as young as 8 regularly access online gaming platforms like Roblox across phones, tablets, and computers, often without parental supervision. Lawsuits allege these platforms failed to protect minors from sexual predators in chat and gameplay environments.

Roblox was designed to be a playground for children, a place to build, imagine, and explore together. But behind its colorful graphics and child-friendly marketing, predators allegedly found access to vulnerable kids through the very game parents trusted.

Across the country, families are filing mass tort lawsuits accusing Roblox of allowing predators to groom, exploit, and sexually abuse minors. Despite years of warnings, the company allegedly failed to implement even the most basic protections.

For Attorney Armando Edmiston, founder of Armando Personal Injury Law, this issue is deeply personal. As a father, a former U.S. Marine, and a lifelong member of the Tampa community, he is outraged by what these families have endured.

No parent should have to learn that a tech platform welcomed into their home became the very tool used to harm their child. The mass tort lawyers at our firm stand ready to fight for justice because every family deserves to be heard, and every child deserves to be safe.

“Parents trusted Roblox to be a safe space for their children,” Attorney Edmiston said. “That trust was shattered. Now, we’re making sure those responsible are held accountable.”

April 2026 Update: Roblox Announces Age-Based Accounts for Users Under 16

Roblox announced a new age-based account system for younger users that is set to roll out in early June 2026. Under the new framework, children ages 5 to 8 will be placed in Roblox Kids accounts, while users ages 9 to 15 will be placed in Roblox Select accounts. Roblox says the change is intended to align content access, communication settings, and parental controls more closely with a child’s age.

For Roblox Kids accounts, access will be limited to games with Minimal or Mild content labels that pass Roblox’s selection process, and communication will be turned off by default. For Roblox Select accounts, users can access games rated up to Moderate that pass the same selection process, and Roblox says parental controls for users under 16 will be expanded. Reuters also reported that chat is turned off by default for Kids accounts and is gradually turned on for Select accounts based on age.

This change is important because it appears in the middle of growing legal and regulatory pressure over Roblox’s handling of child safety, predator access, age-inappropriate content, and parental controls. Reuters reported that Roblox’s age-based account rollout came as the company was facing intense scrutiny over allegations that it failed to protect children on the platform. Around the same time, Nevada announced a settlement requiring Roblox to make broader safety changes that would apply nationwide by early June, including age verification, stricter chat limits for minors, and expanded parental controls.

For families following Roblox sexual abuse litigation, this update may matter because it suggests Roblox is continuing to change its platform rules in response to safety criticism and government pressure. At the same time, these new measures do not erase earlier allegations that children were exposed to predators, sexually explicit material, or unsafe contact on the platform before stronger safeguards were announced. These policy changes are safety measures, not a court finding that prior harms did or did not occur in any specific case. Roblox has denied wrongdoing in the litigation and state investigations described in news coverage.

What Are These Roblox Lawsuits About?

The lawsuits claim Roblox knowingly allowed predators to exploit children using its platform. Parents and state investigators allege that the company ignored repeated warnings and failed to prevent known patterns of abuse. These allegations include:

  • Failing to moderate predatory behavior and sexual content
  • Allowing adults to disguise themselves as children
  • Enabling the distribution of sexually explicit user-generated content
  • Failing to stop predators from moving conversations off-platform (e.g., to Snapchat or Discord)
  • Prioritizing revenue and growth over basic child safety measures

Each lawsuit seeks accountability from one of the largest gaming platforms in the world and a measure of justice for children who were betrayed by its failures.

“This isn’t just a glitch in moderation,” Edmiston said. “It’s a systemic failure that puts millions of children at risk.”

5 Major Safety Failures Alleged Against Roblox

Families and investigators have identified five major safety breakdowns that allegedly allowed predators to thrive:

  1. Unmoderated In-Game Chat: Inadequate filtering and delayed moderation allegedly let predators communicate freely with minors.
  2. Sexually Explicit Game Content Created by Users: Roblox’s user-generated model reportedly made it easy for adults to create or share inappropriate material.
  3. Ineffective Age Verification Systems: Weak age verification allowed adults to impersonate minors and gain access to children’s spaces.
  4. Delayed Response to Reports of Abuse: Families claim Roblox ignored or minimized serious complaints, letting abuse continue.
  5. Failure to Block Off-Platform Grooming Tactics: The company allegedly knew predators were directing children to third-party apps but did little to stop it.

Each of these failures paints a picture of corporate neglect that placed profits and expansion above child safety.

How Children Have Been Harmed

The consequences of Roblox’s alleged negligence have been devastating.

“I’ve spoken with parents whose children now suffer from anxiety, depression, and trauma,” Edmiston said. “All from a game that promised to protect them.”

Many young victims suffer emotional and psychological trauma that may last a lifetime. Common effects include:

  • Emotional distress, PTSD, and anxiety
  • Loss of trust and changes in behavior
  • Depression or suicidal ideation
  • The need for intensive therapy or lifelong support

Some children have also been victims of sextortion, where predators coerced them into sending explicit images or engaging in sexual acts through manipulation or threats. The harm extends beyond the child, affecting entire families who must now navigate recovery, guilt, and anger while demanding justice.

Who Can File a Roblox Lawsuit?

Families may qualify to file a claim if:

  • Their child was targeted, groomed, or harmed via Roblox
  • Predators contacted them using the in-game chat or through Roblox-linked platforms
  • They have records, screenshots, or chat logs to support the claim
  • The incident occurred within the legal time window in their state

Every case is unique, and time limits apply. Speaking with an experienced attorney can help determine eligibility and preserve crucial evidence before it’s lost.

Florida Attorney General Subpoenas Roblox

In April 2025, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier issued a formal subpoena to Roblox. The subpoena demands transparency on how the company moderates content, verifies users’ ages, handles reports of abuse, markets to minors, and protects children’s data.

This legal action adds weight to the growing national movement calling for Big Tech accountability. For many families, it signals that justice may finally be within reach.

Meanwhile, Roblox recently announced several changes to its platform, including:

  • Video-based age verification
  • Restrictions on suggestive content and virtual environments
  • Improved parental control settings

But for families already harmed, these updates arrived far too late. Their children’s innocence and safety were compromised long before the company acted, and many now seek justice through the courts.

“Roblox’s so-called ‘fixes’ came only after lawsuits piled up. Real safety comes from responsibility,” Edmiston said. “Not just reaction.”
