A student and a driver were hospitalized after a vehicle struck a school bus near Dover on October 27, 2026. According to FOX 13’s report, deputies responded to McIntosh Road and Jess Walden Road shortly after 8:30 a.m.
Hillsborough County deputies said preliminary findings indicate the vehicle’s driver ran a stop sign. That driver went to Tampa General Hospital as a trauma alert. The bus’s only student passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation remains ongoing.
Stop Signs Require More Than Slowing Down
Under Florida’s stop-sign law, drivers generally must come to a complete stop and then yield to vehicles already in the intersection or approaching closely enough to present an immediate hazard. Stopping alone does not give a driver the right to pull into another vehicle’s path.
For an injured person or a parent, the practical questions come quickly: What happened? What records should we keep? Who can help us understand the insurance paperwork?
Our Tampa car accident lawyer page explains how Armando Personal Injury Law approaches injury claims in Tampa and throughout Hillsborough County, including the importance of documenting injuries and preserving evidence.
Records to Keep After a School Bus Collision
If you or your child is involved in a crash, start a folder for the paperwork and information you receive. Useful items may include:
- Hospital discharge instructions, treatment records, and medical bills.
- The responding agency’s crash report number.
- Messages from the school or transportation department.
- Photographs and contact information for witnesses.
- Insurance correspondence and records of missed work.
An attorney can also look into whether bus cameras, nearby surveillance systems, or dashcams captured the collision. Any available footage should be evaluated alongside witness accounts and other evidence, rather than relying on a single description of what happened.
